RTD celebrates 59th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act

On July 2, 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed into law the Civil Rights Act. The law prohibited discrimination in public places, mandated the integration of schools and other public facilities, and made employment discrimination illegal. The passing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 changed the course of American history and helped to advance the civil rights movement.

RTD celebrates and honors the bravery of those who fought for and currently fight for justice and equality. The anniversary of the Civil Rights Act serves as a reminder of the progress that has been made and the work that still needs to be done. The fight for civil rights is not a singular event but an ongoing commitment. By acknowledging the work that needs to be done, the agency recognizes the legacy of the Civil Rights Act and strives toward a more inclusive and fair future for all.
