RTD, Suncor and local first responders to conduct N Line safety drill

The Regional Transportation District (RTD), in coordination with Suncor and local emergency services, will conduct an emergency preparedness drill for the N Line commuter rail on Wednesday, Oct. 28, between the hours of 8 a.m. and noon. The drill will take place at Commerce City·72nd Station, 3838 E. 72nd Ave.

The drill will be a simulated exercise to allow local agencies to coordinate communications and response strategies in the event of an actual emergency along the new N Line from Denver to Thornton which opened for service on Sept. 21.

The drill scenario will simulate a chemical release at the Suncor refinery that impacts the local area as well as passengers on an N Line train. During the exercise, emergency equipment may be visible in the area and at Commerce City·72nd Station.

The N Line will be in service during the drill, with trains running on Track 2 and the drill taking place on Track 1. Bus service will not be impacted. The drill is not expected to significantly impact traffic in the area.

Due to social distancing restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, attendance at the exercise is limited to drill participants.
